Consultant Checklist

(This came to me from an HR Manager - Steve)

We're considering hiring an outside consultant to provide some much needed Supervisory training at our company. We haven't done this in the past, and it will be our first attempt.

Does anyone have a checklist or template we could use to consider RFP's? I know I can use ChatGPT to generate one, but I'd like to hear from others who have hired training consultants in the past as well.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Hello!  I am an HR Consultant located in the Columbus area.  I offer a Manager Training Program as a part of my services.  I have attached a flyer here for your review.  I would be happy to schedule an introductory call at your convenience.

Before requesting RFPs, I suggest considering whether you want a consultant to provide off-the-shelf training or design a custom training for your organization to ensure you engage the ideal consultants in the RFP process.

I also highly recommend a discussion with a trusted advisor (or pay a nominal fee to an L&D consultant) to understand and articulate your learning objectives as it will be important to communicate these to the consultants you engage in the RFP process.

I recommend including the following in your checklist:

    • What types of learning delivery will be included in the training? Lecture, discussion, projects, problem-solving, experiential learning?
    • Will you get a preview of the training before it's delivered?
    • How will the learning meet your learning objectives? How will the consultant measure this?
    • What type of updates will the consultant provide throughout/at the end of the training program? How will they engage with you to share what they are experiencing with your supervisors as learners?
    • If you are going the custom route, how involved will you be in the design process?

I'll be happy to discuss and provide further recommendations based on your unique circumstances, if that would be helpful.

    Good luck!
