State Sick Paid Leaves
Hello,
I'm looking for feedback on State Paid Leave in Oregon, Michigan, and Minnesota. Have you created a separate sick bucket for this type of leave or combined it with current PTO policies?
We are looking to create a sick leave bucket and split what they have in our current PTO into these two buckets. Any feedback would be appreciated on what you may doing in your organization.

Hello Loretta. We don't operate in these states, but we operate in both NY and IL, which also have state mandated paid sick leave. We keep these as a separate bucket from our team member's vacation time. One of the main reasons we did this was so that we would not have to pay out any unused earned sick time when the team member's employment ended. We do have to pay out unused earned vacation time per state regulations, and had we combined these buckets to one and called it PTO time, we found that state regulations would have required us to pay out both when employment ends.
