Maternity and Paternity Leave

Hi All. I am curious what other companies are doing for maternity and paternity leave. Are you offering paid benefits outside of Short Term Disability? We are looking at creating a benefit outside of the standard Short Term Disability coverage. Thanks for your input!

  • Hi Kate,

We recently started a policy for 5 paid days of maternity/paternity leave.  Our STD policy has an 8-day unpaid waiting period. So, moms can use these 5-days towards the waiting period.  We've had a couple of dads use it and it has been positively received.

  • Hi Kate,

I was going to post something similar, as we are reviewing our policies as well.  We currently have 6-8 weeks STD plus up to 2 additional weeks of paid sick leave.  Did you all decide to modify your policy since you last inquired?

    thanks!

  • Hi Kate,

We recently updated our policy this year. We offer 4 weeks of paid Parental Leave (both moms and dads can use), and we also offer the option to supplement PTO during short term disability to make compensation whole (I'd recommend checking with your plan to make sure you are allowed to do this). Employees can extend leave beyond the 4 weeks of parental leave + 6-8 weeks of STD by using their PTO (for example, to make it a full 12 weeks).
