Sourcing highly skilled candidates
I've been looking for a Sr. Design Engineer since July 2019. We are a small, specialized company so that's already a hurdle I face when recruiting. First I battled the low unemployment rates of 2019; now, well, it's 2020.
Any ideas on how to find candidates in new ways and/or how to attract engineers away from defense contractors in the Washington DC metro area?

Hi Beth! Do they have to be onsite in Washington DC? I think you'd have a better time trying to hire a Sr. Design Engineer in some of the areas with lower unemployment rates, and the salary would be fantastic for someone who is located in a rural area. I work in the SF Bay Area and I know that since opening up our recruitment to virtual in the US, we've had a lot better luck hiring for what we are looking for.
