Discussing Politics in the Workplace

With the primary season kicking in across the US, the next step for the UK and Europe with Brexit starting to happen, as well as other hot issues regarding politics/government across the globe, how do you make sure people discuss things in a civil manner?

I'd love to hear what you do in your workplace. Do you have policies or procedures? How do you allow people to express themselves without unrest occurring?

This is something that is relevant in workplaces all over the world. Thanks for any insight/experiences you have !!

  • Great topic! I feel like it is hard to have a discussion about anything sensitive anymore without inviting inflamed tension. Should business try to have a hand in facilitating these discussions? I don't really know.
Even if we should, can we? We can require that all employees treat one another respectfully in the workplace, but we know that does not always happen. I'd love to hear what is working/not working out there...
