Company Hierarchy Data on Leadership Roles/Positions

All,

I hope you all are staying healthy and safe.

Does anyone have any company hierarchy data on the number of leadership roles/positions that is best in class for a company to have or what is recommended? Or could you point me in a direction of someone or location that would have it?

For example, what I am looking for is for companies in the manufacturing industry, how many Sr. Managers, Associate Directors, Directors, and Vice Presidents do best in class companies have for 600 - 800 people? Or what sort of ratio of leadership positions to individual contributors is recommended?

Any help on this would be great.

  • Hi! So the answer is not straightforward. What is your definition of best-in-class? What type of manufacturing? What kind of business strategy? What is the balance of low-complexity/repetitive versus high-complexity jobs? The question is more about layers or spans of control but there is no one-size-fits-all answer to your question.
