Verifications of Employment (VOE) question
(This came to me from Rhianna Warren, a fellow HR Pro - Steve)
I have been looking through online resources and I'm not having any luck finding out how long employers should keep completed verifications of employment forms. These are when employers give information on housing, loans, past employment, etc.
I want to make sure we're keeping them, or destroying them, on the correct timing schedule.
Thanks - Rhianna

If you live in Ohio, it's two years after the date you answer them.

Most institutions consider an employment verification letter valid for 4-6 weeks from the date of issue. As the employer I would only keep these docs for 2 months, it's very likely the institutions would request an updated employment verification letter after 6 weeks.
