Political Conversations in the Workplace

(This came to me from an HR Manager - Steve)

We are a small firm and I've noticed that people are struggling with whether they can share their political views. We have some senior leaders who are very vocal on both sides and it's adding tension every day. How do you step into this sensitive topic with people at work?

Would love to hear some ideas on what you've seen work. I want to bring the temperature down here.

Thanks!

  • I just completed Respectful Communication training with leaders and team members and specifically mentioned politics and the upcoming election as a reason for conducting this training. The last election created a noticeably  difficult work environment at a former employer so I am hoping if provide tools on how to share feelings and provide feedback directly to colleagues in a productive and respectful manner at work.
