
What's an "Ideal" Leave Time for Employees?
(This came to me from David Kitchen, a fellow HR pro - Steve)
What is your ideal paid leave time, balancing the needs of employees on leave and lean/resource-strapped departments?
We follow the standards of FMLA and State-related policies. This is for time above and beyond those regulations.
It's something we're struggling to define consistent parameters around. I'd appreciate it if you could share what you currently offer.

I'll be proposing a maternity/paternity leave policy this year so I'm interested to hear from others as well. We have 200 employees with about 160 of them eligible for FMLA (geography limitations for the rest). So far, we have a Short Term Disability policy that will cover up to 13 weeks of leave that women recovering from childbirth can qualify for. Of course, I'm looking to have a policy that would cover more reasons for leave - paternity, adoption etc.
