Is our PTO schedule attractive?

We are a privately held distribution/manufacturing business with about 200 employees. I would be curious to hear how our accrual schedule compares with similar companies:

Tenure                        PTO earned

Less than 1 year        9 days (Vacation/PTO)

1 year                               14 days

6 years                            19 days (current max)

We have 8.5 company holidays.

Thanks for sharing your system. It's great to be able to benchmark this.

  • Thanks for asking this!  I have been wanting to benchmark ours as well.  We are a privately held software company with about 130 employees.  PTO is accrued beginning day 1, available for use after 90 days.

    Year 1-2  =  10 days PTO

    Year 3-5 = 15 days PTO

    Year 6+ = 20 days PTO

    9 paid holidays

We are a privately held telecommunications carrier, with roughly 400 (and growing) employees.  We accrue PTO, starting day one, based on the schedule below:

    During 1st year = 10 days

    Years 1-4 = 15 days

    Years 5-14 = 20 days

    Years 15-24 = 25 days

    Years 25+ = 30 days

We typically have 7 holidays.  In some years we have a 1/2 day for Christmas Eve (depending how it falls), and will have another day or two when holidays fall on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

We are a privately held third-party administrator of benefits for self-funded clients. We have about 70 employees. PTO available after 90 days and full balance is available for use at that time.

    Less than 1 year - 10 Days

    Years 1-5 - 15 Days

    Years 5-15 - 20 Days

    Years 15-20 - 25 Days

    Years 20 and Up - 30 Days

We have 9 paid holidays.  Additionally, we added a 1.5 paid holidays as incentives for various things. Usually close the office for a half day if certain goals are met.

I previously worked at a manufacturing company that was publicly held. Their PTO structure was:

    First Year - 5 Days

    Years 2-5 - 10 Days

    Years 5-10 - 15 Days

    Years 10-15 - 20 Days

    Years 15 and Up - 25 Days

    Hope this helps!
