Creating a maternity leave policy.

I see that another member has recently posted about maternity leave but I am looking for some guidance on creating a new (1st edition) policy for maternity... can anyone help with what the format should be and do I need to also offer short term disability? Our company is currently 30 people but will soon be over 50... I would like to create a policy that will carry on with us as we grow.

Thanks for any help!!!!

  • Hi Lindsey - we recently finalized our new leave policy after a couple months of research. I'd be happy to talk to you about what we did. We are similar size (currently at 45) but will also be quickly growing to over 50. My email is anesci@globalcloud.net if you want to chat.

Hi Lindsey - While working for a previous company, we offered 6 weeks of paid maternity after 1 year of service to run concurrently with FMLA, PTO and STD. We also offered 1 week of paid Paternity leave to run concurrently with FMLA after 1 year of service. Let me know if any questions. Penny.gyke@datamasons.com

    Hi there!

A thought to consider is "parental leave" instead of labeling it maternity or paternity leave. Parental leave is for baby bonding time after birth or adoption. It makes the policy more gender friendly.   You can set the parameters similarly the previously titled policies.
