PEO Companies vs Just a Payroll Company

Hi there!

I work for a company with about 115 employees.  We are currently with a PEO and are looking at different options to either get out of a PEO completely and just get a payroll company/HRIS system or sticking with the PEO.  Anyone have thoughts on the transition?  What should we exactly be looking for?  Recommendations of companies?  Currently shopping Paycor, Paychex, ADP, and a few smaller, more local PEOs.  Thanks!

    Hi Julie,

Do you mind sharing your general geographic region? I ask because it may impact others' recommendations. For example, I know of an amazing PEO in the central Indiana area (who does do some work outside of that region), but if you were in ...say...California...I probably wouldn't recommend them. :)

    Thanks in advance!

  • We worked with a PEO back in 2014 and we were in the same position as you. We were deciding whether to break ties completely or split out some functions. When the PEO found out we were "thinking" about it, they said all or nothing which made out decision quicker. We ended up having to find someone fast and went with CBIZ. Their system allows you to have an integrated network of payroll, HR, benefits, 401k, ATS, background checks, etc. I'd say they may not be "right" for everyone, but at this juncture, it working for us.
