Development for Employees without a Formal Career Path
(This came to me anonymously from an HR VP - Steve)
My company is looking for employee career development/career management training opportunities. We're looking for something that covers multiple topics and doesn't require us to have formal career paths in place.
Does anyone have suggestions or recommendations for programs/providers we could consider?
Thanks in advance!
I recommend the Own Your Experience Strategy Series™ from ScaleUp Coaching & Consulting - Own Your Experience Strategy Series™ for Corporate Clients — ScaleUp (scaleupresults.com).
It's robust with 20+ career development strategies, which are relevant regardless of whether your organization has formal career paths. The program is a learning journey vs. a one-time class, which supports ongoing engagement in the topic of career development. Plus, the program offers learning paths for early careerists and seasoned professionals.
Feel free to reach out if you would like to learn more.

An initial question: Do you currently offer development or training for your employees?
In addition, would you want something that is (1) self-driven or (2) more of a program that is in-person training or team/individual coaching?

One strategy I have used is a "stretch assignment" program as it offers exposure to different parts of the business and creates an internal resource for short term projects. Callouts for this approach are 1) they have to be structured and formal (similar to a formal internship program but often shorter and with internal candidates) and 2) the entire business has to buy in because it may mean freeing up a resource from normal duties to "learn/support" another area. These can be solved but valid call outs. Ultimately it offers opportunities to broaden your teams knowledge of the business, builds bench strength, and develops associates outside their normal path.
