Rehire Policy

We are in the process of updating our rehire policy and am wondering what other company's process is for reinstating the former employee's benefits, PTO, years of service, retirement benefits, etc.  Are the employee's benefits reinstated if they are rehired within 90-days, 120-days, 1 year of the termination?

I'd really like to hear what other employers do. Thanks for your input on this.

  • We have a 180 day policy for re-hires to be re-instated with no loss of seniority.  Anything more than that period and the new hire is treated as never having been employed except for any possible 401k vesting that may be required by law.  We also operate in states that grant sick pay which typically is not paid out at time of termination.  The re-hired individual would have his/her previous sick pay balance re-instated if re-employed within a one (1) year period.
