Productivity of Remote and/or Hybrid Employees

(This came to me from a CHRO anonymously - Steve)

Our CEO is pushing for a full return to work in person, and I'm trying to get some feedback/data on how others are approaching this issue.

Since I don't have any of my current coworkers here, I can ask this and get some honest answers.

  1. For those of you who are fully remote or work a hybrid schedule, do you honestly work more, less, or about the same as you did when you were 100% in the office?
  2. Second question, after answering the first one, do you feel you get more, less, or about the same amount of work actually done while working remotely?

I'd really appreciate hearing from other HR practitioners on this sensitive, and at times emotional, issue many of us are facing. Thanks in advance for your answers.

For us, it's been a mixed bag really.  I feel like I, personally, have less active hours.  Oh, I'm still sitting at my computer and working, but I find myself wandering to the kitchen or getting sidetracked by what I hear on TV or what's going on outside.  But even with that, I don't feel like the home distractions are more or less than the work distractions and that even though I might not have as much active hours, I'm so much more productive during those hours that I can get done in 7 what it would normally take 9. I've even started working on those "nice to do" initiatives that have been on a list since 2017 and finally in 2025 I'm wiping off the dust and getting them done, and I think it's largely because I've been able to be hybrid for several years and caught up on a lot of stuff.
