Question: Does my short term disability policy cover our business if we are quarantined or have an employee who is quarantined?

Short Answer: For the moment, most policies would need a COVID-19 diagnosis in order for the policy to be paid as a claim.  A precautionary quarantine would not meet the definition of a disability.

Notes: Disability carriers are monitoring the situation closely and each one is evaluating the policy on a daily basis in order to best serve their clients.

This is a good time to call your broker and ask the specific question to help employees during the rising concern.
