HR Labor Representative for Mahle in Dayton, Ohio

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Labor Relations Representative / Sr. Labor Relations Representative is responsible for investigating complaints of discrimination and harassment, administering MAHLE standards of conduct, policies and procedures, implementing progressive discipline across the bargaining unit, conducting necessary employee relations training sessions, and interpreting collective bargaining agreements. The position acts as a liaison between employees and the management team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Investigate employee grievances and disciplinary issues.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of complaints, which consist of interviewing parties and witnesses, and gathering evidence as necessary.
  • Prepare investigative reports with analysis, findings, and recommended disciplinary or corrective actions.
  • Serve as a representative at hearings, grievances, and meetings regarding labor relations matters.
  • Review collective bargaining agreements, and contribute to contract negotiations.
  • Determine the appropriateness of proposed disciplinary action to address employee misconduct, and oversee the disciplinary process to ensure compliance with policies, federal, state, and local laws and/or regulations.
  • Advise management and union officials in the development, application, and interpretation of labor relations policies and practices.
  • Conduct training sessions on employment-related matters, including discipline, personnel policies, mandated work rules, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEO), and compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Track action that is taken regarding grievances, arbitration, and mediation of cases.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Labor Relations, Employee Relations, Human Resources Management, or related field from an accredited four-year college or university preferred, or equivalent related experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of Labor or related experience.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems, to work within deadlines with high attention to detail, and to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to influence and develop strong working relationships with all levels of employees, including human resources colleagues and senior-level management and/or executives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation delivery.
  • Must have a broad, basic understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Advanced computer skills, especially in MS Office.
  • HRIS experience is required, SAP experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the concepts of collective bargaining and the grievance process.
  • Knowledge and experience in conducting investigations and the ability to assess evidence and arrive at a fair conclusion in accordance with policies, work rules, and applicable laws.

  • Highly organized and possess good decision-making skills.
  • Must have demonstrable technical presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be fluent in English.   Able to write routine reports and correspondence.  Able to communicate effectively with peers, managers, and directors, and to present to groups of customers or employees of the organization. Values and considers the perspectives and backgrounds of all parties.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete or abstract variables in standard and non-standard situations.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and explain policies and procedures. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The environment will vary in this position based on assignments.  When working in the office, environmental noise is generally minimal.  The environment in manufacturing plants and testing labs is often loud, hot, and with particulates in the air. The working environment may contain potentially hazardous materials such as acids, solvents, oils, and common etchants. In such environments, adherence to PPE regulations is required.

OVERTIME

Employees must be able to work additional hours and/or additional days during the payroll week, which can and will be in excess of forty (40) hours per payroll week.
