Libbey is hiring for a skilled Manager, Health & Welfare Benefits to join our Human Resources team in Toledo, OH. This position is responsible for the design, management, administration, communication and enhancement for all of the health and welfare benefits plans, offered to Libbey associates and retirees in the United States.

Critical competencies for this role include excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, exceptional communication and customer service skills, strong technical skills and capabilities and an ability to prioritize and complete highly time sensitive work in a deadline driven department.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage administration of the health and welfare benefit plans including health care, life insurance, short and long term disability and the Family Medical Leave Act.  Key responsibilities are to:
    • maintain and ensure effective execution of processes related to benefit enrollment, eligibility and transmission of eligibility data
    • interpret plan provisions to accurately administer the plans, respond to questions, and resolve eligibility and claim issues
    • process claim appeals
    • formulate recommendations for plan design changes, new plan provisions and new programs
    • interact with other departments such as Plant Human Resources, Treasury, Accounting, Information Technology and Legal as needed for proper administration of the benefit plans
  • Manage the annual healthcare benefit renewal and open enrollment processes for associates and retirees, including oversight of Access database for retiree billing process
  • Manage benefit vendor relationships to ensure smooth administration of benefit plans, review contracts to ensure compliance with plan designs, interpret plan provisions related to eligibility and claims adjudication as needed to resolute issues, and ensure timely processing of invoices and benefit payments
  • Develop and maintain internal and external communications to educate and inform associates, retirees and dependents on plan benefits, rules and regulations
  • Create and maintain summary plan descriptions for all health and welfare plans: This includes:
    • analyzing new regulations to formulate modifications that ensure on-going compliance with all entities that regulate benefit plans
    • incorporating new plan requirements and design changes as needed
  • Maintain benefits plan data and information within the Human Resources Information System
  • Develop training for, and provide support to the human resources team regarding all aspects of health and welfare benefits administration
  • Serve as a resource for associates, retirees and dependents regarding benefit plan provisions and rules, eligibility and problem resolution
  • Conduct research and attend training programs to ensure that the company’s health and welfare plans are competitive and in compliance with government, regulatory and legal requirements
  • Develop and drive implementation of Libbey’s wellness program strategy and innovation,  partnering with internal and external resources to drive results
  • Support department throughout upcoming ERP implementation, serving as a health and welfare benefits subject matter expert
  • Conduct training as needed to ensure compliance with the HIPAA Privacy regulations

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Professional benefits certification preferred
  • 10+ years of health and welfare benefit administration experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong PC and database application skills
  • People leadership and development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to roll-up your sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity
