Looking for some advice and a bit of perspective
I started my current role in August 2025. I received one week of training, and then my trainer moved into a new role. Right after that, I was assigned to her center. Since then, I’ve been asking questions daily, joining every training call I can, and taking initiative by scheduling my own meetings and reviews.
About a month in, I was given a second site and was also offered a Team Lead promotion. I ended up declining the promotion after three weeks because all the training I was receiving was focused on the Team Lead role, not the job I was already struggling to learn.
I’ve been very vocal since September about needing more training and support—especially since both sites I was assigned are large and very complex. Despite consistently communicating, I was just recently “retrained” for the first time.
Fast-forward to my 90-day review: I received high marks for communication, yet I was placed on a 30-day PIP for “asking for help too late” and “not having the workflow down.” She wrote the review back in November before they gave me retraining.
In 30 years of working, I’ve never had a bad review or been put on a PIP. I’m at a point where I’m unsure what the right move is.
Should I stand up for myself and challenge this, or just let the process play out? Look for another role. I'm so disappointed in myself for this. I feel I've failed myself and the company. I've never been on this side. I've been in management.
Thanks in advance ! - Cheryl

Hi Cher,
I'm sorry you find yourself in a challenging situation. I would try having open and honest conversation with your employer. If they are not open to that, then I'd see if there is a formal grievance policy. Would suggest not resigning because that could affect unemployment eligibility. Also, this sounds like there could be nuance involved, if you haven't already done so, this could be a situation where talking to someone you know and trust that will give you unbiased feedback could be very helpful in seeing the situation clearly. Hoping you find clarity soon!
