Completing I-9s for Remote Workers
(This came to me from Jodi Heisler, a fellow HR peer - Steve)
We hire 80% of our employees remotely. With the new I-9 guidelines coming out, we need to know what others are doing who hire remotely or what companies they are looking or are using for I-9 verifications.
I'd appreciate any insight on this.
Thanks, Jodi

Hi, Jodi - my company is 100% remote and we are utilizing the 'designated agent' option. Employees are given clear instructions to have page 2 completed by someone in their household or a notary public. So far, it's worked out very well.
Also, see the recent announcements on the updated I-9 form and how the use of e-Verify may allow for continued remote document inspection.

We use the eVerify method as detailed by Rebecca Weyer above.

Yes, as Sarah Bennett said, to use the alternative method, you have to use E-Verify and be in good standing! Hope that helps!
