New Hire Orientation - Revision

We are a small heavy metal manufacturer and I am in the process of revising our current new hire orientation.  Currently, employees are spending two days in new hire orientation and we would like to get it down to one day.  I am new to my company so I am basically starting at ground zero.  Any ideas, best practices, or resources you can share would be helpful!

Also, do you know of any resources (free or low dollars) for mandatory OSHA safety training (Bloodborne Pathogens, HAZCOM, etc.)?  I have a plan for long-term training, bu I have an immediate need for safety training.

Thank you,

Marnie

  • I am just wondering if it would be better to increase the time spent in new hire orientation? Doing a good job in orientation decreases costly turnover. Maybe not do 2 full days, but partial days stretched out over a longer span of time?

Hi, Marnie. I do like Chuck's question. My question is what does the current program look like: topics, duration, etc? What are the most important pieces of information for them to truly be part of the team? I'm happy to talk through that with you. 513-444-0067. Maybe it's a blend of what Chuck asked: 1 day covering the most important pieces with a couple half days covering necessary but not critical topics?
