SPHR Preparation

Hello HR Net!  Can anyone suggest resources and tips to assist with preparation for the SPHR exam?  I completed the prep class through HRCP, but I need more help!  That alone has not been enough for me.  Have you tried any of the Apps on your cell?

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Kimberly

    Hi Kimberly,

So glad you are looking at certification, and I'm wishing you all the best for a successful exam! The one thing that helped me the most when preparing for the SPHR exam was to do endless practice tests. I had a test prep package that included practice questions for all of the key areas tested, and I just kept taking the practice exams over and over again until my pass rate was well above what I needed, and I had a good sense for the way questions are worded. It's tricky, because as you know from your test prep, often two of the answers will be very similar, but one of them is the "best" answer. Practice tests helped me to better identify that answer.

One other tool that was helpful to me was flashcards. There are a lot of commercially available flashcard sets out there, but what always helped me to learn was to make my own. The process of making them helps me memorize terms and concepts, and then again when I study with them, it cements them in my brain.

Best of luck, and let us know how it turns out!!

    Cheers,

    Kelly

  • Hello Kimberly,

One resource that helped me a lot was the PHR - SPHR Audible book by David Siler. I would listen to this on my commute and it helped me greatly. He also includes fantastic test taking tips.

Like Kelly, I also utilized flash cards and found them to be helpful.

    Best wishes!

Hi there! You can try your local HR chapter if you're a member? Many of them offer study sessions and if you're a member, some sessions are very reasonable if not free. I believe www.hr.com has some resources available for exam prep & tools.  You may also find exam prep tools & resources in LinkedIn groups as well. You may also post in some of those groups and people can respond with additional resources.  Good luck!

  • Kelly Marinelli  Hi Kelly, thank you for responding.  Do you remember where you got your practice tests from?  The test site only has 2 available and I have them already.
