The traditional approach to workplace conflict/violence focuses on developing and disseminating written directions on how people are to respond to incidents of violence, and on setting up systems for alarm, notification and evacuation.

In contrast, best practices focus on prevention of workplace conflict/violence through effective behavior management programs, dynamic communication strategies and building management skills that support employees and others in making good decisions. The goal of such programs and practices is to identify behaviors that might escalate to violence, improve interventions and to minimize harm if violence is threatened or does occur.

SESSION LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand the full continuum of problematic workplace behaviors
  • Shift from responding to conflict/violence to preventing conflict by managing behavior risks
  • Identify the foundational concepts of effective workplace conflict prevention training
  • Review best practice components of workplace conflict/violence prevention plans
