Benefits Manager in Huntsville, Alabama

Dynetics, an employee-owned company, is seeking a talented Benefits
Manager to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex

The Benefits Manager manages the administration of benefits programs for
a multi-state environment; including health, disability, and life, plans,
Administration of leave policy, including, personal leave, and holiday, leave
without pay (LWOP), FMLA, bereavement leave, military leave, jury duty,
and educational reimbursement. Ability to provide high-level technical
guidance and assistance to all locations and employees on various
employee benefit plans. Recommends strategic and manages all benefit
plans, policies, and procedures. Supervises the Benefits staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides high level technical guidance to employees regarding benefit plans (life), AD&D, health, STD, LTD), and leave policies
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge and expertise in employee benefits services, makes recommendations on pending legislative actions regarding benefits, conduct benefits research, responds to benefits issues, and answer benefits queries
  • Assists with benefit design and administration
  • Assists in the administration of open enrollment process including HRIS design and testing, open enrollment communications, training and audit of open enrollment data
  • Reviews benefits on a regular basis, stays abreast of changes in the market to ensure benefits offered provide competitive advantage, and identifies opportunities to introduce new benefits as needed
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Supervises the compilation and analysis of census information and research of testing information.
  • Manages benefit plan audits including the compilation and filing of 5500's for applicable plans. Coordinates with Third Party Administrators in accomplishing this task, as needed.
  • Oversees maintenance of benefit plan set up in system software.
  • Troubleshoots problems related to benefits systems.
  • Supervises the administration of FMLA and the administration of educational reimbursements
  • Performs related work as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Extensive knowledge of the administration and management of various benefit plans, including life, health, AD&D, STD, LTD, and self-funded plans
  • Knowledge of industry trends and government contract requirements as applicable to benefits
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Ability to work professionally with a variety of people and personalities
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle potentially highly stressful situations
  • Ability to serve as a strategic partner, with sound technical and analytical skills, good judgment, and a strong operational and strategic focus
  • Ability to effectively lead subordinates in the office as well as in remote or virtual environments, and prioritize the workload for the department.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources Management, or a related field preferred 
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in benefits administration.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel at an intermediate level.
  • Professional certification as a Benefits Specialist or HR Professional.
  • Must be a US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance

Other Qualifications

  • Security Requirements Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
