Recognition & Engagement - Looking for Ideas

Hello,

I am the HR Manager at a Manufacturing Plant and am looking for new inexpensive ideas of ways to recognize employees.  Looking for fun activities you do at work that your employees enjoy. Please share what works best for you! Thank you :)

Christina

  • Hi Christina  I think the types of ideas we suggest really depend on the "employee audience"@mgiblin@businessdnagroup.com  Feel free to shoot us an email if you'd like to discuss in more detail...

  • Hi Christina! I work at a Manufacturing plant in MA and we recently started E.A.T. (Employee Apreciation Team) We've been working to  focus on authentic apppreciation verses performance recognition.  To tackle this, we've been having conversations with our leadership team and educating them on the differences between the two.

On the Red Sox Opending day we brought it cracker jacks and popcorn for everyone.

On a really hot day this sumer we went out and bought posicles and ice cream sandwiches for everyone.

We've done a bowling night that got a great response and we are planning a golf outing and Fantasy football draft party. Please let me know what ideas you come up with that we could steal from you!

  • Hi Christina!  Our team (manufacturing environment) has done several events to enhance our work environment: We did a corn hole tournament during March Madness.  We even had a bracket contest with it.  We have had fun with some "national holidays" like "national tortilla chip day".  The leadership team each brought in homemade salsa or guac and the employees voted on which one was best.  We have brought in food trucks and serve free lunch and ice cream.  Good luck!

  • Christina - we do quite a few things both to recognize employees but to have fun.  Having employees share shout outs for one another has been a big hit.  Employees email me any shout outs and what value the person is exhibiting and we include it in our weekly newsletter. At the end of each month, we draw from the names of individuals that sent a shout out and everyone that received a shout out for a winner of a $25 gift card.

We had a manufacturing client that started doing the same thing. But, employees posted a post it note on a wall with the shout out and then CEO collected them each week and did a drawing for a gift card.

If you need more ideas, just give me a call and I'm happy to brainstorm and share.

  • We came up with a multi-tiered reward system for employee recognition that received huge participation. In an effort to drive engagement we knew it had to come from the production floor and be supported by leadership. Using our 5 Core values as targets, we encouraged employees to see the good in one another no matter how small and give them a recognition card (about the size of a business card.) The employee could save them up and redeem for something small or greater value like cool t-shirts, wireless head phones, etc.
