Organization: Spero’s Hope
Assignment: occasional project work – usually 1-2 hours in duration

Location: initially virtually, may be on-site in NYC in the future
Who we are
Spero’s Hope is a non-profit that is dedicated to providing pro bono assistance to people looking for employment. Our passion started with a desire to help lower-income New Yorkers find more stable employment. We have since augmented our services, and today our work also encompasses students from less traditional forms of higher education who are entering the workforce. The intrigue to us is that this student population represents a broad spectrum of demographics. Many are first generation college students, women and under-represented minorities – all of whom are studying various facets of technology.

What we do
We have formed a partnership with an experimental, non-traditional learning organization to supplement their career services initiatives. We will be offering bespoke small group informational sessions and one-on-one interview coaching as well as resume and cover letter preparation (currently all virtual; may be in-person in NYC in the future).
What you will do
- Play the role of a candidate during “skit” interviews during our informational sessions.
- Share your job search perspectives and tips during the informational sessions.
- Post pandemic project work related to employment practices may be available.
What’s in it for you
Besides $35 an hour, this will give you the opportunity to hone your interview skills and answers. For those applicants interested in the technology field, you may get exposure to other tech entrepreneurs and leaders. For applicants interested in the HR field, you will get exposure to the HR employment function and career counseling.
How it works
If you are selected for this role, we will set up a few coaching sessions with you so that you are prepared for the skits. We will also brief you about the goals of our workshops. You are paid for these types of training / briefing sessions in addition to any virtual workshops in which you participate.
We will give you advance notice – usually at least a week – if we need you to participate in a workshop. Our biggest ask is that once you commit to the session, you are available, on time and present during the session. It is ok to turn down a session – we just need to know in advance.
We expect to pay your for a prep session ahead of each workshop.
We estimate that we will call you for two to three sessions a month, approximately an hour in length each.
Other things
If you have ideas for us as to how we can improve our workshops or delivery or if you want to engage with students directly, all additional work is fair game. If we agree to your suggestions, you will be paid for the time you spend on additional work for Spero’s Hope.
