HR Consultant (Hybrid) for The Ohio State University College of Dentistry - Columbus, Ohio

The Office of Human Resources seeks an experienced HR generalist/consultant to partner with leaders across the College of Dentistry, to support strategic initiatives, ensure the delivery of excellent customer service, and champion continuous process improvement.

The HR Consultant will offer solutions, execute HR operations, provide and interpret HR-related reports, and support strategic decisions. This position will be embedded within the College of Dentistry and will report to the Human Resources Business Partner. Through ongoing and regular collaboration with HR Connection (Ohio State’s HR service delivery center), HR Centers of Excellence, and Human Resources Business Partners, the HR Consultant will help ensure the delivery of distinguished customer service for core HR transactions and inquiries. 

This individual contributor is responsible for providing strategic consultation to tie business objectives to employee and manager needs on matters including performance, talent planning/workforce planning, succession planning, learning and professional development, compensation, benefits, and related areas of human resources. The HR Consultant collaborates with leaders to effectively utilize core HR centers of excellence resources such as total rewards and talent management programs. The role will also support leaders, managers and supervisors with HR-related activities throughout the employee lifecycle such as recruiting, onboarding, pay and job changes, performance management, life events, and terminations.  This position will also primarily be responsible for owning the immigration process for the college and overseeing and advising all college faculty recruitment.

The HR team is collaborative, solution-oriented, and fast-working. Success comes to the team through strong relationship-building skills, excellent communication, and an understanding of the business and mission of the college.

Main Performance Objectives:

0-3 Months:

Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders, team members and partners and develop an understanding of the work of the College of Dentistry. Support the ongoing transition to the HR service delivery model and strategic HR initiatives. Gain an understanding of Workday (HRIS) and serve as a resource to users across the college as they transition to utilizing it for HR transactions. Integrate into the CoD faculty recruitment process. Become familiar with the immigration rules, laws, and OSU global services process.

3-6 Months:

Partner with resources in HR shared services and centers of expertise to help drive strategic priorities. Gain an understanding of clinical support staff positions and their corresponding policies and guidelines.

6-12 Months: 

Support the college’s action plan and efforts to establish greater equity, inclusion and racial justice in the college.

The HR Consultant will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Deliver customer-oriented HR support and services.

  • Understand the strategies and goals within the college and recommend innovative approaches to meet the business needs.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with HR centers of excellence and the service center team.

  • Focus on details while leading projects from start to finish.

  • Support a culture of diversity, equity, accessibility, inclusion, and social justice consistent with organizational values.

  • Remain agile in a rapidly changing, sometimes ambiguous environment.

  • Remain open and responsive to feedback from leaders and HR Business Partner.

  • Remain comfortable with a high-volume workload in a complex environment.

  • Understand and utilize technology and analytics to efficiently deliver HR outcomes.

Required Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in human resources or a similar/related field. Minimum of 4 years of professional experience delivering a variety of HR services. Demonstrated experience coaching leaders, supervisors, and employees. Demonstrated knowledge of applicable federal and state employment laws. Proven ability to build productive working relationships with a wide variety of constituencies. Proven experience providing a high level of customer service, and managing continuous improvement projects from beginning to end. 

Desired Education/Experience:

PHR or SHRM-CP is recommended. Academic or large complex organization experience. Experience working in a shared service model and leveraging centers of expertise. Experience influencing and guiding all levels of employees and leadership.

Additional Information:

Target Hiring Range: $67,700 - $90,300

Location: Postle Hall (0024)
