Position elimination: how much notice to employee
We have been given a directive to rework our business model and it will require eliminating 1 position. How much notice is required to give the employee. Our plan was to give them a 30 day notice and allow them to post for another position in our location.
Thanks so much for your help!

My practice has always been to give at least two weeks' notice for a position elimination for a full time employee and at least one weeks' notice for position elimination for a temporary employee.

I agree that 30 days is fine. We had to eliminate a whole department once bur since it was 15 people we started at 3 months out so they could post for other position openings in the company. In the end we only terminated 2 employees.

Agree - more notice is better - allows people to plan and feel like they have some control.
