HR Director, Schaefer - Cincinnati, Ohio
The Schaefer HR Director cultivates a well-trained, compensated and motivated team. As the leader of firm culture, he/she designs employee relation programs and systems that not only support retention and best management practices, but that also align with industry trends and federal/state employee law. Reporting to the firm president and as part of the leadership team, he/she drives team member development, compliance, and benefit planning to the advantage of all team members.
The successful candidate will have the skills to drive initiatives while managing the effects of positive innovation and change, will demonstrate leadership, diplomacy and communications with purpose, and will successfully promote Schaefer’s cultural values on all levels of the firm.

Scope of Work
HR Leadership
- Align HR practices with the mission, vision and purpose of the firm
Employee Relations
- Promote an environment that is an employee oriented, high performing culture
- Provide feedback and cultural recommendations to the leadership team to maintain high morale
- Advocate open communication throughout all levels of the firm
- Oversee all internal communication vehicles to promote the firm’s transparent leadership communication practices
- Manage activities to enhance and maintain morale, build and sustain employee engagement including employee events
Staff Development
- Coach team leaders to effectively manage staff; liaison as necessary and provide follow up and recommendations that benefit both the team member and firm
- Manage the soft skill training efforts of the organization; determine the application and execute training initiatives based on specific need or firm goals, and assist others in the identification of training needs and the development or acquisition of resources needed to carry out programs
- Manage the mentorship program by establishing program goals for new mentors and providing follow up and counseling to monitor new team member development and engagement
Recruiting
- Supervise the firm’s talent acquisition manager
- Partner with the t.a.m. and leadership for workforce planning initiatives and support the assessment of roles within the organization to develop short and long-term plans that meet the firm’s financial goals
Performance Management
- Effectively develop and administer the performance management system that fairly evaluates and motivates staff achievement
Benefits and Compensation
- Partner with internal benefits team to determine best practice compensation policies that are equitable and incentivizing for staff
- Strategize with the firm’s broker and internal benefits team for the best ROI through the benefits renewal process and administration
Compliance
- As the firm’s resource in employment law, leverage a network of expertise and resources to review policies and procedures for compliance with federal and state employment laws; communicate information to team members and managers
- Demonstrate knowledge of labor related laws, including affirmative action, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, COBRA, OSHA, labor practices, corrective action and termination proceedings as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field required, master’s degree preferred
- HR certification (SHRM or HRCI) preferred
- 8+ years HR experience minimum 5 years in HR management in a professional service industry
- Demonstrate a strong strategic focus translating business objectives into aligned, practical and culturally driven HR methods of operation
- Communicate effectively with all firm levels in a dynamic, fast paced, professional work environment
- Demonstrate effective problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution skills
- Exhibit a thorough understanding of supported business process in all areas of HR, workforce administration, benefits and HR information systems
